Coimbatore: Dengue fever is spreading fast in Coimbatore district. Various preventive measures are being taken by the district administration and the health department to control this.
It has been advised to keep surroundings clean, to drink boiled water and in case of fever, the public is advised to visit the hospital immediately to seek treatment. A separate ward has been set up at the Coimbatore Government Hospital to treat patients suffering from dengue fever.
There are 33 people being treated for dengue fever here. Of these, 28 are from Coimbatore, the rest of them are from Erode, Nilgiris and Dindigul districts and Tirupur. Of them, 16 of them are children. As many as 234 people received treatment, recovered and returned home.
Health officials said symptoms of dengue virus include immediate loss of appetite, fatigue, dizziness, decreased urination, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bleeding gums, black stools, difficulty breathing and dizziness. Persons experiencing symptoms must visit the hospital and seek treatment. People are advised not to purchase drugs over the counter or purchase pills without a doctor’s prescription.
Patients with symptoms are asked to rest as the first three days of exposure to the dengue virus can cause fever. The risk of diminished plasma in the blood could occur in the next three days. Children should be sent to school four or five days after recovering from the fever. The working professionals are advised to rest for four days. While running a temperature, people are advised to consume large amounts of liquid foods such as porridge, fruit juices, juices, salt and sugar solutions.
The spread of dengue fever cannot be completely controlled without the cooperation of the general public. Unused old items should be disposed and water stagnation must be allowed. Used water tanks should be kept covered. Mosquitoes that spread dengue fever only bite during the day so one can apply neem oil and coconut oil to escape the mosquito bite. IGM tests are conducted free of cost at the Coimbatore Government Hospital for those with dengue fever symptoms and the number of blood platelets is being tested.
