Police have arrested a 22-year-old man and a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with the brutal murder of a labourer near Kinathukadavu in Coimbatore district. The accused allegedly recorded videos and took selfies with the deceased at the crime scene before sharing them on social media, sending shockwaves among the public.
Coimbatore: A gruesome murder near Kinathukadavu has sent shockwaves across Coimbatore district after the accused allegedly not only killed a 22-year-old daily wage labourer in a brutal attack but also recorded videos at the crime scene, posed for selfies with the deceased and shared them on social media, reportedly on Instagram.
The alleged act of recording the crime, posing for selfies with the deceased and sharing the visuals on social media has shocked the public, raising disturbing questions about the such conduct and the growing glorification of violence on digital platforms.
Police have arrested Madesh (22) and a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with the murder of Ashwin (22), a stone quarry worker from Sikkalampalayam near Pollachi.
According to the preliminary investigation, Ashwin was part of a group that regularly consumed alcohol along with Madesh, Vishnu (19) and the juvenile.
On the night of Wednesday, Ashwin had consumed alcohol and was asleep at his friend Vishnu’s house when Madesh and the juvenile allegedly attacked him with a hammer and a sickle, killing him on the spot, on the wee hours of Thursday.
Shockingly, after committing the murder, the accused remained at the scene, recorded videos of the victim, posed for selfies with the body and later uploaded the images and videos on Instagram.
Following the incident, Kinathukadavu police recovered Ashwin’s body and sent it to the Pollachi Government Hospital for post-mortem examination before registering a murder case.
As the murder triggered widespread outrage, six special teams comprising 15 police personnel were formed to track down the accused. Acting on specific intelligence, police surrounded and arrested Madesh and the juvenile near the Kodangipalayam railway bridge on Thursday.
During the arrest, Madesh allegedly attempted to flee but fell and sustained a fracture to his right hand, police said. He was admitted to the Pollachi Government Hospital for treatment.
Police said that further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events.
