The Director General of Police, conveying his wishes ahead of New Year, has directed restrictions in order to prevent the spread of Covid, especially with concerns of Omicron spread in Coimbatore.
People are restricted from gathering in public places on the 31st night, due to concerns of spread of corona infection. No gathering at the beaches in Tamil Nadu to celebrate the New Year is permitted. It is advised to observe the eve without causing nuisance.
The government has further advised to follow Covid guidelines at places of worship, avoid gathering in public places, roadsides and avoid roaming in vehicles on the day of New Year.
Surveillance will be increased to check for drink and drive cases on 31st of December and those guilty will be arrested. People travelling long distances are advised to use public transport instead of two-wheelers. Road users are advised to avoid speeding while riding or driving so that accidents can be prevented. Those riding on four-wheelers are asked to halt at least every three hours and continue to travel after refreshment.
Hotels and lodges will function till 11 pm as per the guidelines of the Government of Tamil Nadu. The hotel management should ensure that all hotel employees are vaccinated with two doses. People going outstations are directed to inform their nearest police station to avoid thefts and patrol guards will be on the watch.
Bike race, the public nuisance will be monitored on surveillance cameras and appropriate action will be taken against those involved in such activities. In case of emergencies, the public is advised to contact through the KAVALAN-SOS app, or on numbers 100, 112.
