A bullock-cart race was held in Pollachi on Saturday as part of Udhayanidhi Stalin’s birthday celebrations and to accentuate the importance of rearing the native Kangeyam breed of draught cattle.

To celebrate the birth anniversary of DMK state youth wing secretary and Chepauk MLA, Udayanidhi Stalin, a rekla race was held on behalf of Pollachi South Union DMK at Aliyar Road Manalmedu on 25th December. The race emphasized the endangered Kangeyam cattle and the importance of rearing them to create awareness among the youth.
The race also focused on encouraging the farmers to increase breeding and production of country cattle. The race was inaugurated by Tirupur District DMK Secretary Jayaramakrishnan.
More than 100 bulls from various districts including Coimbatore, Tirupur, and Erode participated. The villagers cheered and admired the raging bulls that covered the stipulated distance of 300 meters in the race. The winners were felicitated with cash prizes and trophies.
