Farmers demanded at the farmers grievances meeting held in Pollachi that Government of Tamil Nadu should take stern action to find fake potash makers and causing destruction of agricultural crops.
Coimbatore: A farmers' grievance meeting was held at the Pollachi District Collectorate.
The meeting was chaired by Collector Thackeray Subham Gnana Dev Rao and was attended by a large number of farmers from various parts of the state including Pollachi, Anaimalai and Kinathukadavu. A few days ago, a fake potash making godown was found and sealed in the Achipatti area near Pollachi. This has caused great shock among the farmers.
Fake potash fertilizers are made and sold by mixing colour powder and salt. The use of such fertilizers will not be of any benefit to the farmers as the crops including coconut will lose their viability and become degraded and ruined. Fake potash fertilizers are sold from 1,400 to 1,700. Fear has arisen among farmers that such acts are taking place all over Tamil Nadu. Therefore, the farmers demanded that the Agriculture Department officials identify the makers of such fake potash fertilizers and take stern action against them.
Also since there are a lot of peacocks in the farm area causing damage to crops, they demanded that the authorities take action to prevent peacocks from entering the farmland as farmers are facing huge losses as a result.
