The Vishnupuram Ilakkiya Vattam will be honoring ace poet Vikramadhityan with the Vishnupuram Literary Award on December 26 at a function in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Poet Vikramadhityan will be awarded the Vishnupuram Literary Award on December 26 at a function in Coimbatore.
Vikramadhityan is being honored by the Vishnupuram Ilakkiya Vattam’s Vishnupuram Award for the year 2021. The poet will be felicitated on Sunday, December 26 at the Rajasthani Sangh in R S Puram at 5.30 pm.
Poet Vikramadhityan was born on September 25, 1947 in Tirunelveli with the name Nambirajan. He worked for a period with magazines including Sodhanai, Ashwini, Nakkeeran, Tharasu and Idhayam Pesugiradhu.Vikramadhityan is known for bringing the traditional imagery of the Tamil language and culture in modern poetry. His poems were an alternative to a rigid image concentration and unmusical statement. He has won the Vilakku and Saral Awards.
His writings include Aadhi, Grahayuddham, Gangotri, Sollidil Ellai Illai, Nooru Ennuvadharkkul, Sayam Yadhenapaduvadhenil, Summa Irukkavidadha Kaattru, Kavidhayum Kathirikkaiyum, Avan Aval, Thiru Utharakosamangai, Oozh, Ulvangum Ulagam, Aagasam Neela Niram, Mahakavigal Rathothsavam, Sekar Cycle Shop, Ezhuthu Sol Porul and Kaadaru Madham Naadaru Madham.
The former Union Minister and MP Jairam Ramesh, Telugu poet Vadarevu Veerabadrudu, Director Vasanth S Sai, writer S Dharman and writer Jayamohan will attend the award function and address the gathering.
The Vishnupuram Award has been awarded since 2010 to honor pioneering creations that have enriched modern Tamil literature. On behalf of the Vishnupuram Ilakkiya Vattam which is based in Coimbatore, the artistic award, sculpture and a citation of Rs. 2,00,000 will be presented to the awardee. A documentary on award-winning literacy and a book written by fellow writers on Vikramadhityan's works will be published. Literary sessions will be conducted on the works of the awardees.
