Coimbatore: The Civil Supplies CID officers confiscated 1500 kg of ration rice that was being sneaked into Kerala, during a vehicle check near Madukkarai on Wednesday. One person was arrested in connection with the case.
The Pollachi Unit Civil Supplies Crime Branch (CID) Inspector Gopinath and the police conducted a vehicle search near the Madukkarai Highways Road flyover in Coimbatore, early Wednesday morning. A truck was found with bags of rice and the interrogation revealed that bags of ration rice were being smuggled to Kerala.
Abu alias Abutahir (32) of Palakkad Chittur in Kerala who was staying near Athupalam was arrested and 1500 kg of ration rice which was being smuggled in 30 bags to Kerala were seized. Police are searching for Selina and the Kerala buyer Noorkutty in connection with the case.
