In Coimbatore district, 18 orphans who were abandoned in 2020 and 9 orphans in 2020 have been rescued.
Coimbatore: Authorities state that 27 abandoned children have been rescued in Coimbatore in the past two years. These are children who had been abandoned by parents by the wayside or bus station. Such children have been rescued by 108 ambulances and brought to Coimbatore Government Hospital. After being treated there, they are handed over to the District Child Protection Officer. Thus far, in Coimbatore district, 18 orphans who were abandoned in 2020 and 9 orphans who were abandoned in 2020 have been rescued.
District Child Protection Officer Sundar said, "Children born out of wedlock can be handed over to us and also those who think they should not have more than one child. The details will be kept confidential. They have the right to reclaim the child within 60 days, even if they wish to hand over the child. After 60 days, the baby cannot be returned. When pregnant women are admitted for treatment in Government ospitals, doctors will inform us that they do not want the newborn baby. Then we go and get the baby from the hospital. The baby is then handed over to the Philosophy Center following which priority is given to those who register online for adoption," he added.
