A 22-year-old driver has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl by trapping her under the pretext of marriage.
Coimbatore: A 22-year-old driver has been arrested under the POCSO Act for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl, by allegedly promising to marry her.
The 16-year old polytechnic student was kidnapped and raped by her boyfriend. The victim, a native of Papparapatti in Dharmapuri studying in Coimbatore developed a friendship with Sarveswaran (22) of the same area. Sarveswaran is a college dropout and has been working as a car driver in Coimbatore.
The victim’s parents lodged a missing complaint, unable to find their daughter. Investigations revealed that the girl was kidnapped by Sarveswaran and raped, by luring her into false promises of marriage.
The Coimbatore Central All Women Police Inspector Palaniammal booked Sarveswaran under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act and arrested him on Sunday. He was produced before the court and later lodged in prison. The minor girl has been rescued and united with her parents.
