Coimbatore: Film director Pa Ranjith attended the ‘Margazhiyil Makkal Isai’ performed by the Neelam Panpattu Maiyam and stated that it is indispensable for parents to talk to their children about sexual abuse while addressing the gathering.

“Seems like parents don’t talk to their children, with the increasing sexual abuse cases”, stated director Pa Ranjith during the Margazhiyil Makkal Isai concert held at a private auditorium in SITRA, Coimbatore. The concert was performed on behalf of the Neelam Panpattu Maiyam (Neelam Culture). Village and folk music was performed on this occasion, inaugurated by Film director P Ranjith.

Addressing the reporters here, he said, "The ‘Margazhiyil Makkal Isai was well received in Chennai last year. This year, we are conducting in Madurai, Coimbatore, and Chennai. It was held in Madurai on Saturday” Ranjith stated that the attempt was to connect people and music and most importantly to bring artists who have been in the dark into the limelight. He added that the team will perform the music of tribal people.

Stating that only certain forms of music are still performed at the temples during the month of Margazhi, he wanted to restore the neglected types and that artists benefit from the program. Looking at Margazhi as a ‘month for music’, they have taken the reserved music and artists to the masses.

He added that it was a good thing that the Tamil Thai Vazhthu was announced as the state anthem. The director stated that it is easy to take ideas to the masses through music and songs. He informed that the situation has now changed for artists who talk about social justice who have been deprived of recognition. He said that social justice movies are being made. Adding that such movies have brought the audience closer to the artists, Isaivani, Muthu, Arivu are all in the talks of the audience now.

Music is a powerful weapon and should be used for social liberation. He lamented that we have failed to create enough awareness among children when there are suicides due to sexual abuse. He said that it is indispensable that parents talk to children on such sensitive matters. It is important that children are not made guilty of such incidents and parents should be made aware on sexual abuse and must be educated on how to handle children.

Parents should come forward to take action against the abuser when children come out and report about such incidents, the director stated.

The public gathered for the concert were thrilled with the music program.
