An official from the highways department stated that the Ukkadam-Athupalam bridge’s second phase construction will be completed in a year’s time.
Coimbatore: An official from the highways department assured that the Ukkadam-Athupalam bridge’s second phase construction will be completed in a year’s time.
The second phase of the Ukkadam-Athupalam Bridge is in progress and the highways department official has stated that the construction will be completed within a year. The first phase of construction was between Ukkadam and Karumbukkadai, for an estimate cost of 216-crore allocated by the Tamil Nadu Government. As many as 55 pillars have been erected and the construction of the runway is complete. Meanwhile, the Government of Tamil Nadu allocated 265-crore for the second flyover work from Karumbukkadai to Athupalam and the work is currently in progress. Highways department officials have urged the contractors to complete them within a year.
The Ukkadam-Athupalam Road is a major road to Pollachi and to Kerala via Walayar. The construction of a flyover between Ukkadam and Athupalam commenced in April 2018 due to increased traffic snarls on the road.
Meanwhile, descending points will be set up at three places on the flyover for the convenience of motorists and to avoid traffic jams on the flyover. U-shaped ascending and landing centers will be constructed at three areas viz., Podanur Division, Athupalam, and Ukkadam Bus Stand. Vehicles from Pollachi shall reach Town Hall using Podanur section landing, Sungam Bypass by Ukkadam bus stand point, and Palakkad Road through Athupalam point. This will reduce traffic congestion and also benefit motorists.

The contractor has been urged to complete the second phase of work within a year. The Ukkadam-Athupalam flyover work will be complete in a year’s time."
