Coimbatore: The functionaries of AIADMK stage protests in Coimbatore on Friday condemning the state governing party and allege them of not fulfilling their election promises.
Protests are being held at various places across the state on Friday on behalf of AIADMK against the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
As part of this, more than 1,000 people, led by former minister S P Velumani, joined the demonstration held in front of the Coimbatore South Taluk Office to condemn the DMK government and the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation administration.
The protestors included former Speaker Dhanapal, AIADMK legislator Amman Archunan and BRG. Arun Kumar, K.R. Jayaram and others joined the protests and addressed the gathering.
Speaking during the demonstration, former minister S P Velumani stated that the ruling party has been acting with vengeance and hatred towards the AIADMK party and that the public shall not be victimised.
He added, "More than 500 work orders issued during AIADMK rule in Coimbatore district have been suspended and the Smart City and bridge works are slowed down.” Stating that they will face the raids legally, he demanded resuming of suspended works in Coimbatore. The Ex-Minister stated that the entire city has come together in protest and that the ruling party has been facing oppositions within 7 months of taking charge.
S P Velumani further demanded the reduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel prices in the state and alleged that only very few promises have been fulfilled out of the 525. He also alleged that the DMK government has not taken action against NEET implemented in the state and that two students died due to the issue.
Highlighting the former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s allotment of 7.5 per cent reservation for medical aspirants, he added that none should commit suicide due to fear of the NEET.
“The press is being intimidated in this regime. Nothing has been done in the last 7 months. They are only implementing the schemes brought in by the AIADMK.” the Ex-Minister said. The Ex-Minister termed that the city has achieved unprecedented growth that was not there in the last 50 years due to which the party succeeded in all the constituencies in Coimbatore.
He added that the AIADMK upgraded Coimbatore government hospital, collectorate and superintendent's office and that the suspension of Smart City works and other negligence is due to the fact that no DMK candidate grabbed a seat in the city. He highlighted that the brick industry has been suspended, attacking the livelihood of lakhs of workers and the city has been facing problems such as usury and ‘Katta Panchayat’, which was down for the last ten years.
The Ex-Minister said that the police officers should act neutral and warned of storming into the Commissioner’s office. He stated that AIADMK will once again gain the reign. He alleged the chief minister, MK Stalin of threatening AIADMK with raids and fake allegations and assured that this will all be addressed.
The Minister demanded that the projects proposed by the AIADMK have to be implemented appropriately and the Corporation Administration was called out for not taking up monsoonal disaster prevention seriously and the roads were unusable.
₹ 9,838-crore was given to Women SHGs during the DMK regime, while 1-lakh-crore loans were sanctioned during the AIADMK rule. He alleged the government of improper handling of Chennai rain and stated that water was not logged during the AIADMK regime. Further S P Velumani said that the Coimbatore city lost its peace and the business is affected. He demanded that the fuel price tax has to be reduced, relief should be provided to the people affected by the rains and funds should be given to farmers. He requested that the price of rice is reduced.
The Ex-Minister wants the DMK party to maintain law and order and that there have been more than 500 murders in the regime. The AIADMK members should not be falsely accused or prosecuted. Adding that the state transport corporation has been taking revenge, he demanded provision of ₹ 5000 as Pongal relief due to the impact of the pandemic. Leader S P Velumani stated that the centre was ready to assist in the Smart City development works and that if journalists are threatened, they will be the cause of the change of government. Intimidation of police has increased the number of suicides by the authorities.
He finally stated that if the schemes are not carried out, there will be a renewed agitation.
