Land measured and handed over to Valparai Kallar Gudi tribe at Theppakulam Medu area

Kallar tribe visited the Coimbatore District Collector and alleged that the land given on lease in an area of 1.5-cents was forcefully withdrawn by the forest department and alleged they removed the huts that they had set up to accommodate 21 families.

The villagers set up separate huts for themselves at a place called Theppakulam Medu. As many as 21 people have been given leases in the Theppakulam Medu area but the forest department has removed the huts set up by the tribal people stating that the land has not been measured.

They measured the space to set up a 1.5-cent hut individually as they wished.

The work started at 11 am and the land surveying work was done neatly with the people of Kadar tribe till 4.30 pm. At 2 p.m., everyone was served steamed betel nut and cassava, as well as potato chutney and lunch.
