The Police Commissioner stated firmly that in the interest of the youth and their future, strict action would be taken against those who possess and sell illicit tobacco products and ganja as per the order of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Tirupur: During a vehicle inspection in Tirupur, Anupparpalayam police arrested a man who smuggled ganja from Andhra Pradesh in a car and seized 350 kg of ganja worth Rs.40 lakh from him.
About 15 kg of ganja was seized from the Tirupur North police station limits, with the suspects arrested and remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation into the case revealed that the suspects were involved in smuggling ganja from Theni district to Tirupur city.
Based on the information received that ganja was being smuggled into Tirupur district, the police led by Anupparpalayam Police Station Inspector Chennakesavan, on the orders of higher authorities were engaged in vehicle inspection near Tirupur Angeripalayam Road, Kongu Nagar School.
During the inspection, the police searched a Tavera car based on suspicion. When the vehicle was checked, it was revealed that it contained about 350 kg of ganja.
Police immediately seized the 350 kg of ganja and the car, and arrested Palpandi, a resident of Theni district who was driving the vehicle.
The Tirupur City Commissioner of Police, V Vanitha said, "A resident of Theni district was arrested for smuggling ganja in a Tavera car from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh during a vehicle search in the Kongu Nagar area of Tirupur. They seized 350 kg of ganja worth Rs.40 lakh from the car and confiscated the car. It is also reported that the seized ganja is of high quality and its full value is not yet known and is likely to be over Rs. 40 lakh."
The Anupparpalayam police were commended and the Tirupur City Commissioner of Police said that in the interest of the youth and their future, strict action would be taken against those who possess and sell illicit tobacco products and ganja as per the order of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
