The town planning officers seized four cents of land belonging to the Corporation that remained encroached, for over 10 years, despite the court’s order to clear off encroachments.
Coimbatore: The town planning officers seized four cents of land in Ramanathapuram in Coimbatore belonging to the Corporation that remained encroached despite the court’s order to clear off encroachments. The land was occupied for ten years, stated a corporation official.
A 4-cent land belonging to the Coimbatore Corporation in Arumuga Nagar in 80 ft road, Ramanathapuram, Central Zone in Coimbatore was reportedly encroached.
A furniture shop was run in the place while a court hearing was underway on the encroachment. The court’s verdict declared the land belonged to the corporation and the encroacher was issued notices to vacate the premises within a week.
However, the occupations were not removed. Following this, officials led by Assistant Town Planning Officer Babu, Assistant Engineer Jain Raj, and Ramanathapuram Police Sub-Inspector Gunasekaran visited the spot and recovered the occupied site on the instructions of The Town Planning Officer Karuppathal. A sign was put up on the spot stating that the land was owned by the corporation.
A corporation official said, "The 4-cents recovered land is worth about Rs 1.20-crore. The place had been occupied for the past ten years. A wire fence will be erected around this site which has now been recovered."
