The Bharatiya Janata Party Coimbatore North District President and District Panchayat Member Sangeetha submitted a petition to the District Collector stating that a liquor retail shop that is to be set up on behalf of TASMAC at Kallapalayam in Sulur Taluk Sultanpet Union should be banned.
Sangeetha requested the Collector to intervene in the matter and that a case had already been registered with the police. She pointed out that a resolution had been passed at the Gram Sabha meeting not to set up a TASMAC retail hall, adding that the presence of a liquor shop could cause law and order problems and there would be no protection for women.
