A 45-year old woman vexed at not being able to unite with her lover, set herself ablaze in broad daylight causing a stir in the neighbourhood.
Tirupur: Police at Tirupur Central Police Station are probing the self-immolation of a 45-year old woman who was vexed at not being able to unite with her lover and hence set herself ablaze in broad daylight, causing a stir in the area.
Deivanai (45) from Tirunelveli had settled in Tirupur 15 years ago and rented a house in KVR Nagar. She had been working at a 'banyan' company nearby. Deivanai reportedly developed a friendship with a coworker, which eventually grew into persuading him into marrying her. The man refused on reasons of him being already married which upset Deivanai. She lodged a complaint with the Tirupur South All Women police station a few months ago urging them to unite both of them.
The police questioned the duo and sent them away separately after initiating peace talks. However, vexed over the issue, Deivanai ended her life by suicide, by pouring kerosene on her body and setting herself ablaze in the middle of the road in KVP Nagar area.
The Tirupur Central Police Station is investigating the matter. CCTV footage of the incident has been released and has created a stir in the area. Deivanai is survived by a daughter and a son.
