The Coimbatore District Collector inaugurated the training program for volunteers to teach students under the ‘Illam Thedi Kalvi’ scheme of the Tamil Nadu Government.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran who inaugurated the training program for volunteers to teach students under the ‘Illam Thedi Kalvi’ scheme of the Tamil Nadu Government has stated that 6471 persons have registered themselves thus far to aid in teaching, in Coimbatore.
A district-level training course was conducted at the Coimbatore Cloth Merchants Association Government Girls Higher Secondary School on Raja Street for volunteers who came forward to teach students under the ‘Illam Thedi Kalvi’ scheme of the Tamil Nadu Government.
“The Government of Tamil Nadu has introduced the ‘Illam Thedi Kalvi’ scheme to compensate for the education gap that students from Classes 1 to 8 faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This enables the students to benefit from education being imparted at their homes from 5 pm to 6.30 pm, every day.”
The Collector stated that 1,64,000 students are studying from Classes 1 to 8 from 2,089 areas and that there is a need for 8,200 people to teach them. "As of now, 6,471 persons have registered. A District Union Level Committee has been constituted to implement the scheme effectively. The scheme will be implemented in schools through principals, teachers and members of the School Management Committee who are in the process of verifying the details of volunteers through the ‘Illam Thedi Kalvi’ App. The complete details of the registered persons will be examined and then will be recruited," added the Collector.
The District Principal Education Officer, N Geetha, the District Education Officer (Perur) A M Palaniswami, Tamil Nadu Science Mission and Education Coordinator K Lenin Bharathi were also present on the occasion.
