Awareness on dengue fever and coronavirus is being created for the elderly in 30 old age homes under the Social Welfare Department in the district as a precautionary measure against dengue fever and coronavirus prevention.
Coimbatore: As a precautionary measure against dengue fever and coronavirus prevention, the elderly are being monitored at the old age homes under the Social Welfare Department in Coimbatore district.
There are 30 old age homes functioning under the Social Welfare Department in various parts of Coimbatore district. More than 1,200 seniors are staying in these homes. These facilities are home to elderly people who have been abandoned by their family. Inmates of the homes are being provided with medical assistance, accommodation and food with the help of private charities.
Awareness on dengue fever and coronavirus is being created for the elderly inmates of the 30 old age homes under the Social Welfare Department in the district as a precautionary measure against dengue fever and coronavirus prevention. Temperature of the elderly inmates is being monitored at regular intervals.
A district administration official said, "We are visiting the old age homes and raising awareness among the elderly. The inmates who suffer from fever or cold, are advised to see a doctor and get tested. Also, the staff of the old age home should take care not to allow water to stagnate and must engage in removal of unwanted items. We advised them to clear off the rain water that gets stagnated on top of the buildings. All the elderly are under constant surveillance."
