The devotees have urged Southern Railways to reconsider the decision.
Tirupur: Devotees who arrived at the Tirupur railway station for pre-booking seats to Sabarimala ended up disappointed after discovering that the special train will not halt at the Tirupur junction.
Southern and Central Railway jointly announced a special train for the Sabarimala season. Trains between Secunderabad and Kollam and two trains between Kachiguda and Kollam are to commence operations on December 17, 19and 20. The three trains will depart from Telangana state and enter Tamil Nadu via Katpadi.
The trains will halt at Erode, Salem, Coimbatore and then on to Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Kottayam. Devotees who thronged the ticket booking counter at the Tirupur railway station were disappointed when they were informed that all three trains will leave Erode station and proceed directly to Coimbatore without halting in Tirupur.
"Sabarimala season special trains which were operated in previous years halted at Tirupur station which benefited a large number of devotees. Hence, the Southern Railways should reconsider the decision,” opined a few devotees.
