Sanitary workers of CMC Colony express disagreement over plan to relocate them; place demand with the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner

The sanitary workers and contract workers staying in CMC Colony have expressed disagreement over relocating their residences and demand that the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner of swift action.


Coimbatore: The sanitary workers and contract workers staying in CMC Colony have expressed disagreement over relocating their residences and demand Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner of swift action.

The residents of the CMC colony in Coimbatore waited till 3 pm, on Monday to meet the Corporation Commissioner to place their requests. The sanitary workers, contract workers of the Coimbatore Corporation who are residing in the CMC Colony for 5 generations in their own place stated that they do not agree with the Coimbatore Corporation's plan to relocate their residences.



Reportedly, the Corporation has deducted the salaries of the workforce for the apartment constructed on behalf of the government several years ago. When the fee was paid, they owned the apartment. In addition, a total of 432 residents were evacuated from their residences, but, the works have been halted now.

Further, based on an RTI report, the Madurai Veeran Temple, which has been worshipped by the people for many years, will be demolished and it is planned to construct a 6 floors apartment with 448 houses at the same site.


The locals who arrived at the city corporation lamented that this might affect future generations and demanded that the Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner takes necessary action. The Corporation Commissioner assured them that action would be taken within a week.
