Coimbatore: The private school teacher accused of sexual assault and abetment to suicide of a grade 12 student of his class has been charged under the Goondas Act.
A grade 12 girl student from Athupalam in Coimbatore died by committing suicide on 11th November alleging her Physics teacher, Mithun Chakravarthy of sexual harassment and abuse. Police officers captured her suicide note and arrested Mithun under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act and the school principal Meera Jackson for neglecting the girl’s plea.
Imposing the Goondas Act was recommended to City Commissioner Pradip Kumar on behalf of the All Women Police Station. The Coimbatore City Commissioner reviewed the application and ordered him to be charged under the Goondas Act last night.
Mithun, currently serving his punishment at the prison was issued a copy of the order a few hours back.
