C . R . Swaminathan, President of RAAC and former Chief Executive of PSG Institutions, passed away due to heart attack at 2:30 AM, on Tuesday.
Coimbatore: The City woke up to the shocking news of the death of C . R . Swaminathan, President of ResidentsAwareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC) and former Chief Executive of PSG Institutions. He passed away due to a cardiac arrest at 2:30 AM, on Tuesday.
The 74-year-old has held various notable posts in various industrial bodies, NGOs and played a pivotal role in developing the infrastructure and bio-diversity of the city through coordinated efforts of the government and the people.
Achievements of C R Swaminathan (1947-2021)
Born on December 25, 1947, in Coimbatore, he did his schooling in Mani Higher Secondary School, Coimbatore and Board High School Udumalpet. He studied his Pre University in Government Arts College and joined B.Sc Agri at Bapla Agriculutral College (APAU) in 1966 – 1970. After completing his B.Sc. Agri. He joined MBA at PSG College of Technology.
In 1971 he joined PSG Industrial Institute
as Assistant Sales Manager - Marketing (Motor Pump Sets, Machine Tools and Castings). In 1978, he became the Administrative Officer of PSG Institutions. In 1985 he became Chief Educational Officer of PSG Institutions.
C R Swaminathan while working in the PSG Industrial Institute served as President of South India Engineering Manufacturing Association-(SIEMA), Coimbatore Management Association-(CMA), Coimbatore Productive Council-(CPC), Scientific and Industrial testing and Research Center-(SITARC), Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association-(COINDIA), as well as Rotary Club of Coimbatore East and Vice President of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – (ICCI).
He was also elected as President of Institute of Indian Foundrymen - (IIF) as well as Indian Machine Tools Manufacturing Association (IMTMA) as these are National Bodies.
He was founder Secretary of Codissia Trade Fair Center in 2000. The first private Trade Fair established in Coimbatore.
In addition, he served as Independent Director in Leading Companies. He was Chairman CII Coimbatore Zone, Tamil Nadu State Committee and Chairman of CII Southern Region. CII is an Industrial National Body advising Central Government, as well as State Government in framing the Industrial Policy.
He also served in various Trusts and Educational Institutions as a Governing Council Member. He lead as well as Trustee of Several NGO’s like Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC) – Solid Waste Management, Infrastructure Development, Siruthuli – Protecting Water Bodies, Desilting and Planting Trees, Towards a Serene Kovai - (TASK) Kongu Global Forum – (KGF) consisting of Seven districts namely Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Nilgris, Salem, Namakkal and Karur.
He is also President of Foundries Development Foundation as Section 8 Company to train skill personal and introduce technology in Foundry Industry.
