The student was arrested for impregnating his classmate.
Coimbatore: The incident of a Class 11 student from a private school in Coimbatore arrested under the POCSO Act and admitted to a juvenile school for impregnating his classmate has rattled the city.
The 16-year old student befriended his classmate who lived near his home. A few months ago, when the student's parents were at work, the boy's classmate had reportedly gone to his house to borrow school lesson notes. The boy allegedly lured her and is said to have raped her. The girl student is said to have been lured by the boy again in August and raped. Recently, when the parents of the girl student noticed changes in their daughter's body, they took her to the Government Hospital for a medical examination where they discovered that she was five months pregnant.
The student's parents who were shocked to hear this questioned the girl, after which she reported the incidents with her classmate. In this regard, the Thudiyalur All Women Police investigated the boy student immediately, following a complaint lodged by the girl student's parents. They filed a case under the POCSO Act and have sent the boy to a juvenile school.
Rising sex crimes in Coimbatore are a constant cause for fear and concern among parents of school and college students. Social activists involved in Child Protection initiatives lament that students do not realise that by being involved in such crimes, they do not realise that they are not only ruining another's life but also their own.
