Coimbatore: The BJP Women Wing president Vanathi Srinivasan accused the ruling party of backing separatists condemning the arrest of political commentator, YouTuber Maridhas.
YouTuber Maridhas’ tweet stating “TN turning into Kashmir” after the army chopper crash in Coonoor on Wednesday and led to his arrest. The Coimbatore South MLA, Vanathi Srinivasan, President, BJP Women Wing, expressed her condemnation against Maridhas arrest.
The MLA accusing the ruling party of supporting separatism, questions why people who commented celebrated the death of the befallen have not been taken action against. She stated, “The entire country mourns on the death of India's first Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and army officers in a helicopter crash. Chief Ministers of various states have ordered action against those who posted comments celebrating the tragedy of the befallen, on social media and action is also being taken accordingly.”
She condemned the hasty arrest of YouTuber Maridhas and added that the DMK government does not always take action against separatists, ascertaining Maridhas’ allegation.
She further said Maridhas has been a vocal critic of the DMK's policy and the functioning of the DMK government, the motive behind which there has been an arrest. She further commented that DMK who have been voicing out on freedom of expression has restricted it to those in support of the party, since taking charge.
She finally said, “The DMK government should abandon its anti-democratic measures to suppress the voices that oppose them” and demanded immediate release of Maridhas.
