Corporation officials said during the rainy season these robots are able to clean the sewers very easily so the corporation administration is planning to purchase additional robots as per requirement.

Coimbatore: While 6 robots are being used to repair the sewer blockages in the areas under the Coimbatore Corporation, the Corporation administration is planning to procure additional robots as per the need, an official said.

There are more than 6,000 streets in 100 wards bordering Coimbatore Corporation and about 600 km in the areas under the corporation. The underground sewer project is being implemented across the area. The robot machine was manufactured by a private company to repair sewer blockages and remove human waste.

The first robotic machine worth Rs.36 lakh was purchased by a private company in November 2019 and handed over to the Coimbatore Corporation administration. This robotic machine was first used to repair sewer blockages near the Coimbatore Uppilipalayam signal. Meanwhile, on behalf of Bharat Petroleum, Rs.2.12 crore 5 modern robots were provided to the Corporation for the disposal of underground sewage. Currently all these robots are put to use. Meanwhile, the corporation administration plans to purchase additional robots as needed.

According to a corporation official the expected number of robots cleaning the sewer blockages are being determined. Also during the rainy season these robots are able to clean the sewers very easily so the corporation administration is planning to purchase additional robots as per requirement. He said the study would be carried out soon and how many robots will be reported as required.
