A wild elephant killed a 70-year old man near Mullukadu stream in the city while he was at the stream to wash clothes and bathe.
Coimbatore: A wild elephant killed a 70-year old man in the city, near the Mullukadu stream.
An elderly goatherder died tragically after being attacked by a wild elephant in Coimbatore. Karai (70), son of Kali of Arnadkadu near Thudiyalur Anaikatti, Thuvaipathy was trampled to death by a wild elephant. Karai was reportedly at the Mullukadu stream to wash his clothes and bathe, but was tragically ambushed by the jumbo.
He was reportedly chased by the elephant and thrown afar, and also trampled. Karai died tragically on the spot due to grievous injuries. He was identified by Saraswathi, the wife of Arumugam from the same town, who had also been in the area tending to goats.
On receiving information, the Coimbatore Forest Collector Arun Singh and Thadagam Police Sub-Inspector Arumuga Nayanar rushed to the spot and met the family. Karai is survived by his son Kumar and daughter Parvathi who are married. His wife Valli had died two years ago.An investigation is underway.
