The Nilgiris: All commercial establishments in the Nanjappa Chathiram area near Coonoor are closed for the day from 6 am to 6 pm, as a mark of respect and paying homage to CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 others who tragically perished in the IAF chopper crash on Wednesday.
13 people, including the Chief of Defence Staff, Bipin Rawat and his wife, and 12 armed force personnel were killed as the helicopter carrying them crashed into a tree and caught fire in the Coonoor Nanjappa Chathiram forest area of Nilgiris on Wednesday.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin and other army officials paid homage to the deceased at MRC, Wellington on Thursday. Floral tributes are being paid in honour of the deceased across Nilgiris district, including Ooty, Coonoor, Kotagiri and Gudalur, on behalf of the traders’ associations.
Meanwhile, led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Muthumanickam, the second day of investigations are underway in the district in connection with the crash.
