Mangalam police received a tip-off that banned gutka and tobacco products are hoarded in the Mangalam area under the Palladam Police limits in Tirupur district. Following this, cops led by Inspector Neela Devi conducted a search near Valayapalayam early this morning. The search unearthed 3.5 tonnes of gutka and tobacco products banned by the Tamil Nadu Government were stored in a house owned by Chinnaswamy at Vannan Thottam.
Sajiprasad from Coimbatore, Muthukrishnan from Tirupur, Vaikundaraman from Vadukapalayam and Arvind Raj from Palladam have been booked and arrested in connection with the matter. The cops also seized 3.5 tonnes of banned tobacco products and gutka, an auto and a car. Further investigations are on. The incident caused a stir in the area.
