Coimbatore: A consultative meeting on facing the northeast monsoon in Valparai was held under the chairmanship of the Coimbatore District Deputy Collector.


Coimbatore: A consultative meeting on facing the northeast monsoon in Valparai was held under the chairmanship of the Coimbatore District Deputy Collector.

Valparai was hit hard by floods in the last few years due to floods in the rivers. Disaster Management and Rescue Team joined hands with officials from various departments and handled them.

All the rivers have been dredged by the municipality and now the public live without fear. As a precautionary measure to prevent the people living near the river area from being affected during the coming Northeast monsoon, Coimbatore Deputy Collector Balakrishnan visited the area in the presence of Thasildar Raja and inspected various areas including Valparai Vazhaithottam, Children's Park and Dhobi Colony and enquired about the condition of the riverside areas.



He then attended a consultative meeting held at the Tahsildar's Office and briefed the officials and volunteers on precautionary measures to be taken at times of calamity. He also said that even if telecommunication is not available in the Valparai area during times of disaster, one can call the helpline number 1077 for immediate assistance.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Revenue, Municipal, Fire, and Forest departments and volunteers and the general public.
