In the Sub Junior category for girls, Gitanjali has bagged silver under the 33-kg weight category.
Coimbatore: A team of 10 school and college students who trained at the Puliakulam T1 police club for children, participated in the 26th National 'Thang-Ta' Championship tournament was held in the capital city of Manipur - Imphal.
The championship took place between 27th March to 30th March. Coimbatore students have excelled at the event and have won many medals for the state.
Under the Sub Junior - Men's event of 41 kg weight category, Srivarshan won the bronze medal. Another student named Monish won the gold medal in the 45-kg category. Also, Roshan has received a silver medal in the 50-kg weight category.

In the Sub Junior category for girls, Gitanjali has bagged silver under the 33-kg weight category. Mary Priyadarshini has won the gold medal in the 53-kg weight category. Mary, who is a student from the Coimbatore Ramanathapuram Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School has also received the best player award.
In the junior category for men, Rahul has bagged the silver medal in the 80-kg weight category. Meanwhile, in the junior category for girls, Mithra has won a silver medal in the 75-kg weight category.
Under the senior men's category, Saranraj has received the silver medal in the 50-kg weight category.
These students participated in the competition under Tamil Nadu's 'Thang-Ta' Sports Secretary and coach Selvaraj, and Coimbatore District coach Ranjith Kumar.
The students arrived in Coimbatore today and they were given a warm welcome at the railway station by District 'Thang-Ta' sports secretary Dr Selvakumar, Puliyakulam T1 station police inspector Devendran and parents.
Further on speaking, District 'Thang-Ta' sports secretary Dr Selvakumar said "Thang-Ta is a traditional defence sport. Thang-Ta is a famous sport in Manipur which is similar to the Silambam in Tamilnadu."
On behalf of Tamil Nadu, a total of 2 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 1 bronze medal were achieved at the championship.
