Great Response for Coimbatore Marathon: More than 6,500 runners across globe participate in the virtual edition
Coimbatore: More than 6,500 runners from across the globe participated in seven categories in this Virtual Edition of the Coimbatore Marathon 2020 held from 1st December to 31st December. In a press release it is said that, "The premiere event had garnered the participation of people from all walks of life. The 2020 edition of the Coimbatore Marathon was a Virtual Event. The theme for this year was ‘RUN SMART’.
Dr. T Balaji, Managing Trustee of the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation said, “Greetings from Coimbatore Cancer Foundation(CCF). We have a sense of pride as we complete the 8th Edition of the Coimbatore Marathon in a Virtual format. When we conceived the idea of a marathon, we never expected that it be embraced and welcomed by the citizens of Coimbatore to this extent. It has become a marquee event so looked forward to by the city. The quality of the event along with the cause is what has made it so special."
"CCF has now moved into its own premises making it more accessible to the community at large. We have launched our dream project Aravanippu - a model Rural Home Care Palliative service, which has been very well received and we are now ready to spread our wings and reach out to more rural communities. We are able to dream bigger, ramp up our services and grow and this has been made possible to a large extent because of the Coimbatore Marathon. Wishing everyone a Happy & Healthy New Year 2021.â€
Race Director, Ramesh Ponnuswami said, “This 8th edition of the marathon which was conducted as a virtual event has been a big success and a very gratifying experience for my team, which has worked for months to put this event together. Being the first time on a virtual platform, there were many things our team had to set up from scratch, learn and adapt from similar events from around the world, to ensure we continue to provide a world class marathon experience to all participants. The support from various stakeholders has been phenomenal for our intent to ensure continuity of the event despite the pandemic. We are extremely grateful for this. As we close out the 2020 edition, we look forward to returning to the physical format with our next edition in December 2021â€.
The Coimbatore Marathon was brought to the city by Coimbatore Cancer Foundation in association with Coimbatore Runners & Show Space Events. All participants received a finisher t-Shirt and finisher medal. The past editions of the event have always been held in the first week of October. But, taking into consideration experience with adverse weather conditions prevailing during that time of the year and the clash with festival and public holidays, the event will henceforth be permanently moved to December from this year onwards.
