Pakistan Cricketer Shahid Afridi tests positive for COVID-19

Coimbatore: Per a tweet by the cricketer himself, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has tested positive for COVID-19. Afridi, 40, tweeted tdoay Twitter that he had been experiencing bad bodyache for the past few, and that the tests for the virus had come out positive.

Right from the initial stages of the virus outbreak, Afridi had been travelling extensively to nooks and corners of Pakistan to provide relief supplies to the underprivileged as part of his charity, the Shahid Afridi Foundation. He had been focussing on door-to-door service that involved delivering ration supplies. During the course of the work, Afridi was seen to get in close contact with the beneficiaries, who often expressed their gratitude by hugging and kissing the former allrounder.

Afridi becomes the third cricketer from Pakistan, and the second international player after former Pakistan opener Taufeeq Umar, who has contracted the virus. Zafar Sarfraz, a former first-class cricketer who succumbed to the disease, was the first.
