Tirupur: A marathon to create awareness on safety of women and to commemorate the International Women's day was held in Tirupur on Sunday. The awareness marathon was organised by NGO 'Ini Oru Vidhi Seivom' and was flagged off by District Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan.

Swarnalatha, Founder of Swarga Foundation, Coimbatore was the chief guest for the event. The marathon commenced from Chikkanna School and concluded at Vanjipalayam.

Clad in white and blue costume, thousands of men, women and children with zeal took part in the 5 km category, to educate the masses on women safety which is the need of the hour.

At the end of the marathon, 11 people who are in need of educational, medical assistance and the differently-abled were handed over with cheques each worth Rs 5000.

All participants were given certificates.
