National level weightlifting championship hosted in Coimbatore


Indian Weightlifting Federation is organizing a National level weightlifting championship that was inaugurated in Coimbatore today. About 700 men and women lifters are expected to participate in this event that will conclude on 15th January. The competitions are hosted at a private auditorium in SITRA, in Coimbatore.

Weightlifters from 28 states are participating in this event. Participants are divided into two categories depending on their age. It has been reported that 350 men and 150 women lifters have registered for the 18 to 23 years old age category and about 200 lifters are expected to compete against each other in the 40 to 70 years old age category.

Today, at this venue, competitions were hosted for the 53-kgs and 59-kgs weight categories. The competitions for 66-kgs and 120-kgs will be conducted in nine categories in the following days of this championship.
