Coimbatore: A meeting was held at the District Collectorate meeting hall to receive feedback on the redefinition of wards for the newly-formed municipalities in Coimbatore.
The meeting was held at the Coimbatore Collectorate under the chairmanship of Redefinition Commission Chairman, Palani Kumar. Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran, Tirupur District Collector S Vineeth and Salem District Collector Karmegam were also present at the meeting.
The Commission Secretary Sundaravalli, members of the Election Commission, Municipal Commissioners and political party representatives were present. Four town panchayats in Coimbatore comprising Karamadai, Karumathampatti, Madukkarai and Gudalur have been upgraded to Municipalities in Coimbatore. Accordingly, 18 wards have been increased to 24 wards.
Three town panchayats comprising Thirumuruganpoondi Municipality in Tirupur, Tharamangalam and Edanganasalai in Salem have been upgraded to Municipalities and the ward count has been increased from 15 to 27. Representatives of the political parties present at the meeting submitted a petition to the Commission on the irregularities and changes to be made during the ward redrafting.
