Coimbatore: The city police are on the lookout for the gang that hacked a 22-year-old youth to death chasing him on motorbikes.
Sriram (22) alias Monkey Sriram son of Vijayan, from Rathinapuri, Coimbatore, was chased by a gang of six unidentified men on three motorbikes and he was hacked to death. Sriram was riding a motorbike along with his friend Gavaskhan, (23), at around 9 pm last night.
The victim, Sriram was rounded up near Chinnavedampatti Anjugam Nagar by a gang of six men on three motorcycles with weapons including scythes and knives. Frightened, the two men who tried to escape from the mob were chased for up to 2-kilometres. The mob grabbed Sriram near a chicken shop, scythed him down, leaving him to die in a pool of blood on the spot, and fled the scene.
Horrified public fled the spot and upon information, Coimbatore South Deputy Commissioner of Police Uma, Inspectors Senthil Kumar, Muthamizh, Sub Inspector Sarath Kumar, and police personnel rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to the Coimbatore government hospital for post mortem.
Preliminary investigations by the police have revealed that frequent disputes between groups from Rathinapuri and Kannappan Nagar area could be the cause for the murder. It is speculated that a mob from the Kannappan Nagar area might have murdered Sriram.
