Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Association for the Deaf submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector, G S Sameeran seeking a hike in assistance and reservation for jobs in the Government and private sector in Coimbatore for the hearing-impaired.
The Coimbatore District Association for the Deaf.sought assistance for the differently-abled and 1 percent reservation for employment, for the hearing-impaired. They demanded that the Tamil Nadu Government should allocate a monthly allowance of ₹.1000 to ₹.3000 for the differently-abled with a price hike similar to that of other states like AP, Telangana.
A 1 percent reservation for the hearing impaired in Government and private services in Coimbatore was also demanded in the petition. "Private companies use the Government for promotional reasons but 1 percent reservation should be provided in other services such as sanitary workers in Government hospitals, assistant staff and sanitary workers in municipal office and assistant staff in the Panchayat Council office," stated the petitioners who also warned that they were ready to protest at the Collectorate if they do not get employment opportunities.
