During a vehicle inspection, about 700-kg of ration rice was seized in a two-wheeler which was being smuggled to Kerala. Six persons arrested for smuggling the rice.
Coimbatore: There were constant complaints that goods including ration rice are being smuggled into Kerala through Pollachi. On the orders of the Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police, Selvanagarathinam, the police are conducting raids in the border areas.
The taluk police received information that ration rice was being smuggled through Chedimuthur village near Pollachi. During a vehicle inspection, about 700-kg of ration rice was seized in a two-wheeler which was being smuggled to Kerala. Later, Radhakrishnan (60) of Pollachi Kuppusamy Road, his wife Padmavathi (50), Kumaran (48) of the same street, Dhanasekaran (28) of Raja Mill Road, Kumaran Nagar, Chittoor, Kerala, Ramakrishnan (37) and Deepak (21) from Kerala who smuggled ration rice were arrested.
They also seized 5 two-wheelers used for smuggling and 700-kg of ration rice and handed them over to the Pollachi Food Smuggling Prevention Unit.
