Coimbatore: The C130 Hercules flight carrying bodies of the deceased CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 other armed forces has left the Sulur Air Base for Delhi.
The Mi 17V chopper crashed near Katteri Park in Coonoor on Wednesday afternoon in which 14 persons including Bipin Rawat and his wife were travelling to the Coonoor Wellington Army Centre from the Sulur Air Base in Coimbatore. 13 out of the 14 onboard died in the crash, including CDS General and his wife, and it is reported that the pilot is being treated for serious injuries.
Homage was paid to the deceased by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, other Ministers, officials along with the army personnel at the MRC Ground in Wellington, early Thursday morning.
The bodies were later taken to the Sulur Air Base through individual ambulances and arrived at the Sulur Air Base at 2.55 pm, with public lining on the Ooty-Mettupalyam road to pay their respects to the deceased.
One of the ambulances that was part of the convoy carrying the remains of the deceased and a security vehicle met with minor accidents en route to Mettupalayam but the bodies were transferred to another vehicle.
