The Director-General of police has issued orders to book those involved in the illegal sale of banned narcotics and other substances under the Goondas Act to reduce crime rates within a month’s time.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Police have been asked to tighten grip on the illegal sale of banned products and narcotic substances according to a circular issued by the Director-General of Police, Sylendra Babu to police departments in the state.
As per his circular, “Starting from December 6, measures have to be taken to abolish the sale of banned items and narcotic substances, especially near the schools and colleges in the cities in a month’s time (until January 6, 2022). Those accused in the sale of ganja, lottery tickets and gutka will be booked under the Goondas Act and the wholesale vendors who help in hoarding the banned items are to be identified and imprisoned to break the chain. Students addicted to the usage of narcotic substances should be sent to rehabilitation centers."
The circular further read that the Inspectors should form WhatsApp groups with the residents adjacent to schools and college premises and enable them to provide tip-offs to curb sales. The state's Anti-narcotics Wing has to forerun special measures with the Andhra police department to eradicate the cannabis sale cultivated in the state.
The Railway Police were directed to intensify surveillance at railway stations and trains and take action to seize ganja, gutka, and illegal lottery sale. The Intelligence Wing has been directed to appoint Chief Constables who will monitor the situation and who in turn will be monitored by the Commissioner of Police, Chennai and the Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order and send a report every day.
