Siruvani Vizhuthugal have petitioned the TN Chief Minister to put a stop to cutting down of healthy trees for road expansion purposes
Coimbatore: Members of Siruvani Vizhuthugal have submitted a petition to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M K Stalin requesting him to halt the cutting of healthy trees for the expansion of roads.
The Siruvani Vizhuthugal has requested the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to ban the Highways Department from felling trees that are in good health for the purpose of expanding roads.
The Highways Department had earlier announced that three trees in the Madhwa Royapuram Panchayat Iruttupallam region, opposite to Vinayagar temple are to be cleared out for expanding the roads.
According to the petitioners, It has been reported that the Highways Department will soon cut down the banyan tree, the tamarind tree on its south side opposite Vinayaka Temple in Iruttupallam area of Madwarayapuram Panchayat, and three trees in front of Evangeline School to widen the road. The roads have already been widened sufficiently two years ago.
The petitioners also stated that the road will be wide enough if the encroachments on the highway are removed instead of cutting down the trees.
