'Elderly shall get exclusive permissions on applications to avail ration items through cards in case of biometric failure:' District Supply Officer

The District Supply Officer has stated that the elderly shall get exclusive permissions on applications to avail ration items through their cards in case of biometric failure.

Coimbatore: The District Supply Officer has stated that the elderly shall get exclusive permissions on application to avail ration items through their cards in case of biometric failure.

Public throughout the country and in the state of Tamil Nadu presently avail ration items through the One Nation, One Ration Card Scheme. Supplies are distributed to the locals in Coimbatore through biometric formats in the 1420 ration shops in the district. However, due to technical issues, biometrics fail to read cardholder’s fingerprints, which is a rising concern among the beneficiaries due to delay in supply, and elderly people's fingerprints are also unable to be registered due to old age.

In light of this issue, the District Supply Officer stated, “According to this scheme, any member of the family must come to the ration shop and the supplies will be provided using their fingerprint. This prevents others from buying goods using anyone's ration card. Currently, the server of the machine has been increased in speed. If the elderly are not able to register their fingerprints, other members on the card can register the fingerprint and buy the goods.

Otherwise, an application form should be obtained from the employee of the concerned ration shop and submitted to the District Supply Officer. After the hearing, it will be arranged to buy goods without fingerprints.”
