Preliminary consultative meeting to find ways to avoid rain water logging onto major roads in Coimbatore, Corporation Commissioner chairs meeting

The Corporation Commissioner headed the consultative meeting held here in which discussions on solving the rain water logging issue on the major roads in the city was discussed.


Coimbatore: The Commissioner and Special Officer of the Corporation, Raja Gopal Sunkara, headed the consultative meeting here on Monday.

A preliminary consultation was held at Coimbatore Corporation's main office meeting chaired by the Commissioner and Special Officer, Corporation, Raja Gopal Sunkara. The meeting saw discussions on finding permanent solutions to avoid rainwater logging at various important places including Avinashi Road Flyover, Kaleeswara Mill Road, Lanka Corner, Kikani Railway Bridge on Monday.



Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner and Special Officer said, "In order to avoid rain water logging at the major areas including Avinashi Road Flyover, Kaleeswara Mill Road, Lanka Corner and Kikani Railway Bridge in Coimbatore Corporation, and the rain drains in the city has to be desilted before the onset of southwest and northeast monsoons."

He added that detailed planning be made on the necessary essential tasks to be carried out and these areas are to be given special attention and surveillance cameras should be installed for monitoring. High-speed motors to drain the stagnant rainwater and to find out the possibility of diverting rain water elsewhere are to be carried out.

Discussions were held on forming a team of experts constituting the corporation engineers, health officers, and doctors, professionals, eminent college engineers, and volunteers were held to take appropriate planning and precautionary measures. The Commissioner added that in a week, another discussion on appointing the team members and the measures will be held. A detailed project report should be prepared and presented to the committee within a month's time, said Commissioner of Corporation.



The review meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Municipal Corporation M. Shamila, Director, Suez Project, Amrit Niyogi, Corporation Engineers Ramaswamy, Prabhakar, a retired architect, technicians, volunteers, and retired engineering college professors.
