Omicron threat: 70 people from 12 countries under isolation monitored by health department

Deputy Director of the Health Department P. Aruna said, 70 people have come from 12 countries, including South Africa. They are not infected. 70 people have been advised not to leave their homes for 7 days. It is advisable to inform the health department immediately in case of symptoms related to coronavirus infection.


Coimbatore: According to the health department, 70 people from 12 countries including South Africa, have been isolated and monitored in Coimbatore.

The coronavirus infection that has been threatening the world for two years has evolved in various ways and is now evolving into a new type known as Omicron. The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that Omicron coronavirus infections are spreading faster than previous types of coronavirus infections, including delta.

New types of Omicron infections have been detected in more than 30 countries, including South Africa, Israel, Botswana, Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Italy and Japan. The central government has imposed strict restrictions on visitors to India from 12 countries, including South Africa, Botswana, Israel and Hong Kong, which are the worst hit. The central government has instructed to isolate and monitor those coming from 12 specific countries for 7 days. According to the health department, 70 people from the above countries who came to Coimbatore in the last 5 days have been isolated.

In this connection, the Deputy Director of the Health Department P. Aruna said, 70 people have come from 12 countries announced by the Central Government, including South Africa. They are not infected. Yet 70 people have been advised not to leave their homes for 7 days. It is advisable to inform the health department immediately in case of symptoms related to coronavirus infection. He said a committee comprising the local government, the health department, the revenue department and the police had been set up to monitor whether they were leaving their homes.
