This year's post-monsoon wildlife survey work is being carried out from today (5th) to the 11th. Led by Anaimalai Tiger Deputy Director Ganesan, a total of 240 people are engaged in the survey work.
Coimbatore: Wildlife census is initiated in four wildlife areas under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve.
The Anaimalai Tiger Reserve has four wildlife sanctuaries, Pollachi, Valparai, Topslip and Manampalli. Animals including tiger, leopard, elephant, wildebeest, deer, bear and many other bird species will be surveyed. The forest department is safeguarding this protected forest and its wildlife. Individual surveys of tigers and all animals and birds are conducted annually. This survey helps to know whether the number of wildlife and bird species is increasing or decreasing and to take appropriate action accordingly.

The training class for those involved in the survey was held next to Valparai. According to forest officials, the four wildlife sanctuaries at Pollachi, Valparai, Topslip and Manampalli, which are under the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, will be divided into 32 sections and 64 straight lines will be surveyed along those routes. Survey work will be done on the basis of residue, footprints, scratches included.
