Officials found a bundle of ration rice stacked in a house. Ration rice flour was found to be ground in a grinder and sold to hotels and restaurants from there. It was also revealed that the ration rice flour bundles are being smuggled to other states.
Coimbatore: Three persons were arrested for allegedly grinding and selling ration rice in Dasampalayam area near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district. Food safety officials seized 400-kg of ration rice which had been illegally stockpiled. The supply officers who seized the car and two-wheeler used for smuggling ration rice handed over the arrested three persons to the police. Dasampalayam is next to Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district.
The district collector also received a tip-off that ration rice was being milled and sold to escape from the police. Following this, on the orders of Coimbatore District Collector, Mettupalayam District Distribution Officer Selvaraj and Revenue Analyst Hariprakash conducted inspections in Dasampalayam area. Senthilkumar heard the sound of a flour grinder being operated inside a house. Later, when he went inside the house he found a bundle of ration rice stacked there. Ration rice flour was found to be ground in a grinder and sold to hotels and restaurants.

Following this, all the sacks were checked and about 400-kg of ration rice was confiscated by the authorities. They also confiscated a car and a two-wheeler used to smuggle ration rice. Deva, Navaneethan and Loganathan were later arrested and handed over to the Food Smuggling Prevention Unit.
