3 arrested for smuggling banned tobacco products in Coonoor

1.7-tonnes of hans gutka taken from Gundlupet area to Coimbatore via Pollachi was seized in Coonoor. 3 people were arrested in this connection.


Coimbatore: Police were engaged in a vehicle search at the Coonoor Level Crossing in the Nilgiris District. At that time, on information that drugs are being smuggled from Karnataka to Coimbatore district, the team was involved in an intensive vehicle search at the level crossing area.



A search of a Karnataka lorry that arrived at the time found 75 bundles of drugs inside the coconut husks. Following the investigation, the police arrested driver Suresh, Kurraj and Raja from Mysuru. 1.7-tonnes of hans, gutka and the lorry that was transporting them were seized. The total trade value is estimated be valued at Rs 8.35-lakh and the market value is stated to be several lakhs, police said.
