JCBs, motor pumps readied in Coimbatore for disaster management

The city corporation has stationed JCB vehicles, suction motor pumps to remove uprooted trees and logged rainwater on the roads due to the incessant rains.


Coimbatore: The heavy rains in Coimbatore this northeast monsoon has called for precautionary disaster management plans. JCB vehicles, motor pumps, and suction machines are kept ready on behalf of the district administration.

Five JCB vehicles, motor pumps, and super sucker vehicles are on standby on behalf of the corporation to repair the impact due to the continuing heavy rains in Coimbatore.

The heavy rains in the recent days in Coimbatore have filled 9 lakes in the city and the inflow has increased in the Noyyal River. Rainwater has been flooding into residences especially in the areas that Rajavaikkal water flows, while the Avinashi road flyover, Lanka Corner, and Kikani railway bridges are engulfed by the water. Trees uprooting due to heavy rains is also another concern.In view of managing such disasters, 5 JCB vehicles are deployed on standby to repair the impact of the continuing rains.

A Corporation official stated, “A 24-hour control room is functioning in Coimbatore Corporation. Immediate action is being taken on the complaints received. Five vehicles, one JCB vehicle is on standby in each zone of the Corporation. Apart from this, super sucker vehicles and powerful motor pumps are also on standby.”
