Thousands of ducks have died due to bird flu in Alappuzha, Kerala. Due to the high level of livestock traffic through Pollachi on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, bird flu is likely to spread in Tamil Nadu as well. District Collector has ordered that camps be set up especially in the border areas leading to Kerala via Pollachi.
Coimbatore: There are routes to Kerala via Pollachi on the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, including Gopalapuram and Meenatchipuram Nadupuni.
This route carries essential commodities including vegetables, broilers and eggs to Kerala. Especially from Namakkal and Pollachi environs, broilers are said to be brought to Kerala in large numbers.
